Did anyone Know?

July is National Baked Bean Month. Who knew? Baked beans are filling, healthy and low in fat. They are also best friends with hot dogs. They go every where together. Family Bar-B Q's and on a picnic, and of course home-made for a Sunday dinner. The reason you should be aware of this bean invasion is that it is also Morse Farms annual Bean-Hole-Bean supper on July 23rd at 5:30 til 7:30. We have all the fixings....Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, and of course the beans best friend the Hot Dog. We are open til 8:oo so you can get your creemee for dessert. See you soon.

Time to celebrate !!!

Another new baby has been added to Tom's growing herd. Even if he/she hasn't come close enough to get a look at. Also more new products have been added in the store and strawberries are flying out of here. Betsy is making home-made biscuits and we have whipped cream. Fourth of July sounds like a Strawberry Short Cake kind of day! Fast, easy, and yummy. Burr will be selling his famous Maple Kettle Corn on Sunday for the goings-on down in Montpelier, so stop by and say "Hi" and then come on up and take a look around. Don't forget your creemee. Happy 4th of July!

Another baby?

We now have three babies out in the field. All Moms seem to care for whoever comes along. I guess a form of " it takes a whole pasture to make a herd." They all seem to be doing well. The two older ones run, jump and play and the newest little one just takes another nap. Not ready for any cow games yet. Stop by, bring your camera, take a stroll thru the store and see all our new items. Don't forget to get a creemee before you go. Ahhhhh Summer!!!

Finally Summer !

The last few days have been HOT and we still are getting some pretty strong thunder storms but it really does look like summer has arrived. People are already complaining its too hot. Come on now, remember winter and the cold and snow you shoveled, and then this really bad rain and flooding? Hot weather is made for having a maple creemee. Kids love the maple sprinkles, they call it"maple dust". School will be out soon and families will be coming to visit our green state. Lots of them stop in here for their Pure Vermont Syrup and of course a maple creemee. So ask anyone where to get a great maple creemee and they will direct you to the Morse Farm. See you soon.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Have you herd!

We now have two new babies out in the fields. The first one was born around Memorial Day I think because when I first saw it, he/she was already running around and jumping and kicking up his heels. So cute! The newest arrival was out there this morning with mom. Tom's herd is growing again. Stop by and get a maple creemee or a float and see if you can spot the new kids of the pasture. Nice views from our decks. See you soon.

Summer?

Summer is here for the most part. Still quite cool and real rainy. The black flies and mostquitos are really having a great time with all the wet weather. Even with the not so perfect weather guests are arriving from all kinds of places and are enjoying our beautiful views and green state. Schools will be out soon and our creemee lines will be long but we are fast and can get you on your way quickly. Stop by and see whats new and enjoy our porch with a view.

Spring at last

Spring has finally sprung.....Rain,rain, and more rain. One week of sunshine and right back to more rain. Lawns and flowers love it but the sun isn't out long enough to keep up with the grass and the weeds. The mud has dried up...pretty much and people and buses have started coming to the Morse Farm to visit us. We have five buses this week and three more coming in next week. They will be looking for their Sugar-on-Snow and creemees, and other new this spring items that will catch their eye. We still have bulk syrup for our locals, grass-fed beef and of course Maple Kettle corn. Stop by with your guests and take a look at whats new. Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers and fresh cut grass. Happy Spring!

Friday, April 29, 2011

Finally some sun.

Spring has been a wet....long time coming, but now and then we actually get to see a little sonshine. When the ducks don't swim in our pond and use the lawn for floating around, that's when you know there has been way too much rain! The sugar house has been cleaned up from the busy season and we are ready for our busy summer tourist season. Our store hours are longer so you can get in here to get your Maple creemees and other goodies. Grade B syrup is on sale and the grass fed beef is 20% off except for the ground beef. So stop up and take a look around, new products arriving daily.

Seasons End

Looks like sugaring season is coming to an end, but it sure has been a good and busy one. Some late nights of boiling to make room for the seeming never ending flo of sap. A sugar makers dream and nightmare all at the same time, not wanting to loose a drop of sap to make more of the liquid gold. All in all a great year. Stop by and get some of this years syrup! See you soon.

Winter? / Spring?

We just might catch a glimps of spring this weekend but we have been thinking that for weeks now. This weather sure is good for making maple syrup. We are having a real good year. Sometimes there is more sap than hours in the day to boil it all. People really enjoy the tails told in the sugarhouse. Stop in if you see the steam still rolling out late at night, Burr or Tom would welcome some one to talk to, it helps to keep them awake.

Friday, April 1, 2011

Finally Fancy

Well the week of cold weather worked----Burr is making Fancy and he his real happy. All sugar makers like to make Fancy grade syrup. The big April Fools Day snow storm seems to have missed us a little, but I'm sure we will still get some, we always do. So the sugaring continues. This may end up being a nice long season.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Too cold for the flow

Even though we had almost two solid weeks of sap flow, now Mother Nature has thrown us a curve ball and it never gets quite warm enough to let the sap run. Every day the weather says it will be a little bit warmer......we're still waiting! We have made Medium and Grade A Dark syrup so maybe this cold spell will bring on the Fancy syrup. That would be great. The robins and red-winged black birds are back and the back roads are a mess so lets have sugaring season --- again.

Sugar Snow

We have been boiling sap every day since March 13th the day it began. Wow, does it seem good to have the air filled with that wonderful steamy smell of sap slowly turning to Maple Syrup. YUM!! Yesterday and today we've had rain, sleet, and snow. Elliott says it's sugar snow. Lots of folks came to the Maple Open House weekend, Parked any where they could squeeze in and up and down the road. Even Burr's dooryard became parking some times. Had a great tour out. Thanks to all who came to see us. Stop up to the sugar house, Burr would love to visit with you. Happy Spring!

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Four days and counting

Today is Wednesday and the fourth day in a row we have been boiling. What a great week, and by the looks of the weather this great sugaring streak will continue. We have been pretty busy the last couple of days, locals and tourists alike see the steam and have to stop for a look. We have some Grade A Dark Amber syrup already canned if you just can't wait for 2011 maple goodness. PLease stop by.

Monday, March 14, 2011

A beautiful sight

Burr boiled a little over the weekend and today as early as 10:00 the steam is pouring out of the sugar house. What a wonderful sight. Finally this week looks pretty good for sugaring and the men will be hard at work making some of the best you can eat, Pure Vermont Maple Syrup. Maple Open House weekend is this coming weekend so hopefully we will be boiling both days to the enjoyment of the many folks who stop in to see how its done. Happy Sugar Season!

Friday, March 11, 2011

Spring Specials

We still have bulk grade syrup and just in, Maple cotton candy. Grade B syrup in all sizes is on special with 10% off. Always fresh maple candy and maple kettle corn,so good. What a sweet place to visit. Maple Open House weekend is next week on March 19 and 20th. Pancake breakfast sat. and hotdogs and eggs boiled in sap Sun. Don't miss it.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Where is spring.

This has seemed like a really long winter this year. Just can't wait for the steam to come pouring out of the sugar house. Of course we usually have one person stop and tell us our barn is on fire, but explain to them what's happening and they seem to be interested and go up to have a look. Rain is in the forcast so it's going to warm up and hopefully freeze at night again so we can get started. Folks love to come watch the process even though they have seen it many times before.. tradition. Stop by for a creemee or Sugar-on-Snow this weekend maybe, just maybe we will be sugaring and Burr will be in his glory. Tom will keep the loads of sap coming and we'll be in business!

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Rumor has it.

Well the rumor around the sugar woods is that there has been some sap running around in the sugar woods. I don't think we have seen that here at the Morse Farm but possibly this week-end we may get that sap to run! Sugaring is serious business but if you can't make fun of a tap thats a drip what can you make fun of. Hope you can all get to see the saps and drips here soon. MAPLE TIME!!!!!

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Why be normal.

Talking about the weather. If we had normal weather we'd be like Florida or some other state that has predictable weather. Sun most days with a quick thunder shower once in a while, back to sunshine....normal. Unlike Vermont where one day it's sunny and nice, the next day you get three feet of snow! Today sunny again. Makes us wonder whats next. Now thats weather. Still waiting for our sugaring season to begin maybe this weekend...... all depends on the weather. We have s-o-s on Friday,Saturday, and Sundays and chocolate creemees are back. Hopefully we will have the sugar house steaming things up around here soon. Stop by and see us.

Monday, February 28, 2011

Crazy Weather

Today we've had sleet, rain, snow and it just keeps coming down. You look outside and it's pouring rain..... ten minutes later it's snow and then freezing rain again. I guess March is supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb, at least thats what the saying is. I think we may be a day off with the lion thing. I hope. We need sugaring weather. We are all tapped and ready to FLOW! Sugar-On-Snow starts this Friday.... Noon til Four. See you soon.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Where"s Spring?

Another big snow storm! All we want to do is sugar. It is supposed to warm up again in a couple days but another something coming in Monday. They are not sure if it will be rain or snow right now. I think the weather man just guesses at the weather some times. Enough already! We start Sugar-on Snow next weekend and we'll have Chocolate creemees by this monday at the latest. Some good news at least. Hang in there sugar makers.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Think Spring

The sun slowly inches over a little more each morning when it comes up and it stays light longer at night. Sure signs of spring. We need to hold on thru Feb. and March. Probably not done with a few good snow storms yet either. We had no Jan. thaw, that waited until February and we have had 3 to 4 days of March winds already. So does that put us ahead or behind with Mother Nature? Can't wait to see what March will bring. Hopefully it will give us a very productive sugaring season. Would love to see lots of visitors and just the right kind of weather we need. Happy Spring!

Monday, February 21, 2011

Presidents Day

Lots of schools closed for Mid-Winter vacation and many people have today off
to make a long weekend. The weekend was cold and lots of wind. Today, Monday is sunny and still pretty cold, but the skiiers are out in full force. Visitors are coming to the Morse Farm for their maple creemee they have been told about and they are not disappointed. Creemees are great even when it's below zero. Happy Presidents Day.

Friday, February 18, 2011

Maple

We often get asked about cooking with maple syrup, the conversion is pretty easy. 3/4 cup of maple syrup is equal to 1 cup of regular sugar. 1 cup of syrup is the same as 1 cup of honey. When baking you should add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. This will help the baked product turn out better. Also lower the oven temp by 25 degrees. Maple syrup tends to burn quicker. Check to see if it's done by inserting a knife until it comes out clean. Enjoy!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

' tis the season

No, not Christmas again..... Sugaring season. Days like today and tommorrow make us think before too long we will be making the sugarhouse steam come roaring out the top, door and sides of the building. Back yard farmers and other folks will try their hand at getting some of that liquid gold. You see plastic milk jugs, coffee cans of all sizes and of course they use buckets too, all up and down the sides of the roads. All trying to make enough for their family, friends and relatives. It's lots of work but oh the rewards! Looking forward to a sweet season for all.

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Sweet Treats

If you have cabin fever we have a cure for that. Sweet Treats at the Morse Farm will always make you feel better. It is a nice ride up here and it gets you out of the house, and when you arrive you start deciding which treat you would like to have. We have Maple Kettle Corn, Maple creemees, donuts, brownies, fudge, and quick breads. If you need something more to eat before your treat we have Chili on Fri, Sat, and Sundays thru ski season. Then Sugar-on-Snow starts March 4th and continues every weekend thru March and into April. So get out of that house and come get a sweet fix.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Syrup to taste

We often get asked which is the best grade of maple syrup, after we explain that we have four different grades we suggest they taste them to see which one they like. They usually think they will like one of the lighter ones best but are surprised to find they like the dark grades. Burr and Elliott say that sugar-makers like Fancy the best. We find people from the South like grade B. So if you're not sure where you stand on which grade is the best, come on up and taste for yourself. Now is a great time as syrup is still 10% off, and many items are still on sale thru-out the store.

Monday, February 14, 2011

Feb. 14th

Happy Valentines Day! The day to show that special someone how much you care. Hearts and flowers flying out of the stores makes the merchants really happy. We still have maple candy hearts if you haven't got around to do your sweetheart shopping yet. You don't want to be in the dog house tonight, it's going to be real cold !! Today however the eves are dripping and the sun is out...keep that good vive going and tell someone how much they mean to you. Bring them up for a maple creemee and enjoy the day.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

The time is near.

We are beginning to recieve phone calls about when we will start serving Sugar-On-Snow. We always start the first weekend in March. Like last year we will also have it on Fridays. So it will begin March 4th,5th,and 6th. Serving from noon to 4:00 each day. We will also have our chocolate creemees back that weekend for those of you that like the choco/maple combo or plain chocolate. So make your plans to come and enjoy one of the finest of spring time treats. Bring your out of state company up for a real special taste of Vermont.

Tap-Tap-Tap

Yesterdays bright sunny day brought out the men of Morse Farm to start the tapping for sugaring season. It's always a good sign of sweeter things to come. Tapping usually happens in February to get a jump start on Mother Nature because you never know when the weather will be warm enough for the sap to run or we get another two foot snow storm. Either way repairing the lines and tapping takes a lot of time. Tom, Doug, and Burr get the snowshoes on and head for the sugarbush. This is just the beginning of many folks asking if we are all tapped yet and when do you think it will start? Looking forward to seeing you thru this sweet season.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Wow

Now that was a snow storm! We plowed our driveway three times yesterday- but never saw a town truck. Of course after the second plowing we couldn't see down our driveway either let alone the road. By the time I'd get the steps, deck and stairs, and in front of the barn doors shoveled out the first place I did needed shoveling again. A loosing battle. I think every school in Vt. was closed and many in N.H. also.
Barb said that UPS called and said they were closed. She said that both Malls in Burlington were also closed along with Norhfield Savings Bank. WOW, glad to see the sunshine today, time to dig out. We are open and the skiiers are in heaven, stop up.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Holiday

I don't think Ground Hogs Day is really a holiday. I know in Pa. it's a big deal and if they aren't getting the storm we are supposed to get tomorrow he just might see his shadow if the sun is out. But here in Vermont we probably won't even be able to see outside let alone a ground hog. By the way we call them woodchucks here ( close relations ). So it really doesn't matter whether he sees his shadow or not around here, we will still have six or more weeks of winter. Holiday, I don't think so. HAPPY WOODCHUCK DAY.

February just around the corner

Well January is almost gone and we have had another good showing at the Farm Show. It seemed a little quieter this year but maybe Wendy and I are so used to hub-bub now we don't even notice. Burr and Florance said it was busy on consumer night. Flo said all she did was keep frosting donuts with our Maple cream and Burr kept dipping up more Maple kettle corn. Sounds like a good time had by all. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello. February gets us closer to the sugaring season. Still always look forward to the smell in the sugar house. See you soon.

Hunker down

This weekend is going to be a doozy, bitter cold, so get ready. You can almost bet some of those die hard skiiers will be out there on the trails. Why? God only knows. I guess the cold doesn't bother them. Me, I run from the house to the heated car as fast as I can. Anyway stay warm and keep the home fires burning. See you Tues. at the Farm Show

Thursday, January 20, 2011

What happened to the January thaw?

Boy, it's been cold and it looks like this weekend we are really in for a bitter cold snap. Snow every day and really cold with wind, now that is an old fashion winter in January just like it used to be. It seems like every year when it's time for the Farm Show we get a major snow storm or ice storm or so cold it hurts to breath. At least we are not in the B.O.R. anymore. Lots of times the heat didn't work correctly or not at all and standing on that ice arena you couldn't feel your feet within an hour. So stop by to see us in the warm Barre Auditorium and check out our booth. Only a few days away now. Hope to see you there.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

More Snow

It's snowing again, probably another 2-6 inches forcasted. I guess we are making up for no snow in December. Bus loads of kids have started coming back again this year for skiing and sliding. Some different from when we went to school. They are talking about closing down the interstate. A tractor trailer has had an accident up there so it is not so great for traveling right now. Winter in Vermont and the month of January, always an adventure. Drive safe.

Monday, January 17, 2011

Need a face lift?

Before sugaring gets started Morse Farm usually does some painting and makes a few repairs to freshen up the place. This year is no different. We have put in new counter tops, shelves, and floor in the front of the store. Very nice indeed. But it's the sugarhouse its self that is getting a facelift. A new wall on the backside by the road, windows replaced to now open out, and a new red roof to match all the other buildings here at the Morse Farm. Really looks sharp, ready to start sugaring. Stop by and give us a look.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Reminders

Syrup on sale in store at 10% off but in the World there is a coupon that gives you 20% off if you bring it in. All cheese is 25% off. Still other sale items in store and don't forget we'll be at the Farm Show on Tues. the 25th,Wed. the 26th and Thurs. the 27th. Maple kettlecorn samples and maple creemees to go for sale and all kinds of goodies. I think we are the most popular booth there. Stop by to see us. Barb and Krysta will be holding down the store while we enjoy visting with you at the show. See you soon.

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Happy Skiiers

By 9:00 this morning we had 10 cars of skiiers ready to hit the trails. Eric was going out to groom finally ---- ski weather. The roads to get here however are terrible, snow covered and packed down to ice. Foolish people still going their usual speed, their headlights not on and driving way too close. They never learn. The other night going home on I-89 one guy went by us going about 60 mph and we couldn't hardly keep our 4x4 truck on the road at 30. About one mile there was Mr. Speeder down over the bank. He was out of his car and walking around so we knew he was okay, so we waved! Just not real bright I guess. Drive slow in this snowy weather, live to ski another day.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Round Two

Here we go again, another snow storm headed our way and it looks like we are not going to get the heavy stuff this time either. Atlanta, Ga. is having an awful time with lots of snow and really slippery roads. We just call that another day here and go about our business. Looks like we will be getting about three to six inches but you never know. Stay safe and drive slow.

Monday, January 10, 2011

How goes it ?

Snow capped birdfeeders, fence posts, and roofs along with that cold bite in the air let us know that winter has arrived and this round of snow is probably going to stay a while. March,April, and even into May sometimes. How long till spring? You never know and we are already being asked how we think sugaring will be. You just never know. Mother Nature has complete control of that. Let's get thru January and February first and just wait and see.

Friday, January 7, 2011

Farm Show

Once again we are getting ready for the Farm Show in Barre. Set up is Monday the 24th and we will be there to show you some of our many products we have in our store. It runs Tues. Wed. and Thurs, 9:00 to 5:00. Samples, info, and of course maple products to purchase including syrup, maple candy, and our famous Maple Kettle corn. Watch the local papers for more information. Hope to see you there.

Thursday, January 6, 2011

Lets make a deal

Now is the time to come up and make a deal with Barb. She is doing inventory and if you buy it she doesn't have to count it, so she's willing to make a deal. Many specials still thru out the store. Cabot cheese is even 25% off. When have you ever seen that? Christmas items are at 40% off. So stop up , get your creemee and wonder around the store while you look at all the sales. See you soon.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Bring on the snow

Still waiting for that big blast of snow so our ski center can be busy with skiiers. We got about 4 " at my house this morning and had to plow to find the driveway, got at Morse Farm and only about an inch. Right now it looks like we are inside a snow globe. Snow in softly coming down and lots like it's piling up a little. Roads aren't real good but if we get enough snow that doesn't stop any skier from getting here. The trees and land does look pretty all covered with clean, white snow but don't tell Wendy I said that. She loves winter and the snow, me I like 90 degrees and a cold drink in my hand. Have a great day.

Monday, January 3, 2011

2011 begins

The new year has come in quietly. It looked like less people out on the roads and going to parties. More of being laid back and just enjoying the nice weather and sunshine the new year brought with it. No real storms in sight so says the weatherman but they are watching one we may get over the weekend. Every storm has gone around us and the ski center could really use a good storm. Keep your fingers crossed skiiers ! We still have the sale table and syrup is 10% off till sugaring season. Maple creemees, maple creemee pies, and sales, stop up.
