Whats next ?

We are pretty much done with the Christmas rush although today is the Wed. before Christmas and we have been quite busy in the store with last mimute customers. The phones aren't ringing off the wall like they have been in the past and it isn't elbow to elbow and lines to cash out. I guess everyone has found their perfect gifts at last. So now we are waiting for it to snow and snow big for the Morse Farm Ski Center. So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow !

Almost Over

Tues. the 21st of Dec. people have figured out that Christmas is coming, ready or not. The mail orders have slowed down and the phone has stopped ringing off the wall. Didn't think we'd get thru all the madness some days but we are still here with smiles on our faces. The wreaths are all gone and only two little trees are left. If you want to ship now we are telling folks to say Happy Holidays on their gift cards because it probably won't arrive for Christmas now. We still have many gifts to choose from and we will gift wrap it for you while you wait. What service!
Merry Christmas from Morse Farm .

It's Cold !!!

Oh baby, it's cold outside. There is your regular cold where you can't feel your fingers or toes but that isn't really cold. You know it's cold when it takes two hands to shove the dog out the door to go p.... and she stands there with one leg in the air because putting all four down would just be too cold, and she's giving me a dirty look. Yes, they can do that. Also when your nose hairs freeze in your nose that is a sure sign. When you spill the gallon of water for the windsheild to get defrosted all done your pants and it instantly freezes to your leg, thats when you know its real cold. Also when its only eight degrees and you go outside and it feels positively balmy, thats when you know its been way to cold !!!

Music?

People and phone calls and kids with frozen mittens
Cookies and candy and warm Holiday wishes
Morse Farm gift boxes done up with great care
folks hoping that the perfect tree will be here
When the wind blows, when the cold bites, and I'm feeling overwhelmed
I simply remember my favorite friends and then I don't feel so bad.

We are sooooo Famous

E-mails and phone calls are pouring in, folks are recording it from the TV. What is all the excitment about? We were on Jeopardy last night! The question was about Vermont attractions in Vermont and we were mentioned. The gentleman was from NY and knew the answer to what the state capital was. We have been on some food networks before and on the local news at times but this looks like we have gone big time now.I think this is pretty cool to be known on national television. Go Morse Farm.

Syrup Sale

All our Maple syrup from today thru Christmas is on sale 20% off ! So even if you buy a case of syrup which is already 10% off we'll take another 10% off to make it a whole 20% off. What a deal. 17 days to go

With only 17 shopping days left for all the holiday prep it would be so easy if that was all there was to do... was get ready for Christmas. Shopping for the last few gifts, baking, getting all the groceries for the meal, wrapping the last gifts....easy right? Well when you throw in 4-7 extra deer hunters every weekend for meals and using the house for a deer blind, a birthday, a new grandson being born, a Motorcycle Riders Christmas party, and work, it makes it a little tricky to fit it all in. I guess thats why its called the hustle and bustle of the season. I just would like to know where those darn elves are that I hired. Slackers!

Winter storm

They are talking about a winter storm. Right now I guess it is just a watch. Us Vermonters don't pay much attention to that kind of stuff, just pull up another dog to keep warm if the power goes out. We've had our own kind of storm of people calling us and using the web to order for Christmas. Busy, busy which is a good thing for us. Trees went out of here over the weekend like crazy and our new tree stands sold great too. Saturdays sales for wreaths was like a blizzard so let the wind and snow blow, we are open and ready to help you with the Holidays.

What was he thinking

Yesterday a man came in to get a tree. Burr had just left to deliver a big tree in Montpelier and cut more boughs which we couldn't seem to keep in the yard for people. He said to call Tom if anyone needed help with a tree. So in he came and said he wanted the tree netted to go in his vehicle and would go park up by the netting machine. No problem, I'll call Tom. Tom said he'd be here shortly but it wasn't hard to put a tree thru so maybe see if he could do it, if I could give him a
box cutter to cut the netting. So as I started out the door the guy drives by with the tree in the back of his pickup. Why did he think he needed to net it when he had a truck? I asked if he was all set and he said yes and told me he forgot he had the truck and didn't need to net it. Go figure!

Busy Open House

Saturday for open house started kind of slow. The roads still weren't all that good from the day before and the weather couldn't decide which to snow and blow or warm up a bit. At times we could hear the wagon rides going out but the wind and snow went sideways sometimes and you couldn't see a thing. Kind of wild outside and it got that way in the store also. Many folks came and enjoyed free samples and got some great deals besides. We still have many items on sale and hot mulled cider to enjoy as you look thru the store. Come on up, the sun is shinning today.

Friday, November 26, 2010

Come to Open House

Open house is tomorrow from ten til two. We will have tractor pulled wagon rides which is a favorite for young and old alike. Mail order will be open out back to get your holiday shopping started or do everyone with different premade gift baskets or items you pick out to make up your own. We are all decked out with wreaths and lights waiting for you. Stop up.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Giving Thanks

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we have many things to be thankful for. We have jobs and get enough to eat. All of the kids and grandkids will be at our house Thanksgiving night to eat way too much and then be too full. One year my turkey had to take a ride to my daughters house as the power went out and we had to use her oven to finish cooking the bird. Thankfully she lives close by. Only one problem I always have with Thanksgiving is the stuffing. I hate that stove top stuff. I've been sick both times I've tried it and just can't look at the stuff. However if you think about stuffing in general it is old, dry, stale bread seasoned that we put up a turkeys butt. Happy Thanksgiving.

Wants in a name

We get a real kick out of some of the many names tourist or folks who have been here a few times and return have for Burr. They believe they know Burr on a personal level but just can't seem to get his name right. One year in mail order they told us that Bert was real funny. Was he from Texas?..yup, Bert from Texas thats him. Love that.
Bo,Bart,Barry,Harold, another favorite and Harry Morse that's the one we know that he does't want to talk to them anyway. So next time you see Burr or whoever he is say "Hey'.

Another wacky wednesday

Here we go again, first the funniest question I've ever been asked. Do you have pies? Nothing funny about that but I said yes, only the Maple creemee pies with a graham cracker crust. She then asked me if they had to be baked? I stopped for a minute and said "baked"? no, they are frozen. The next question was, So you don't have to even warm them at all? I just said no, they are a frozen pie. We could have had a new product. Creemee soup pie. Sometimes it just makes you wonder what makes some people tick. Have a great day.

When it comes to farm fresh and home grown Morse Farm has it covered. We have grass-fed beef raised right here in the fields. Tom has grown his own corn and pumpkins here on the farm. We can our Maple syrup downstairs here and Elliott makes fresh maple sugar and candy at least twice a week. How's that for fresh ?

Wacky Wenesday

The buses have all gone for now and the silly questions over the phone or in the store have slowed down a bit but we still get them. Here is a few recent ones. What do you use to patch the whole in the tree once you pull the tap out? # 2 question The trees have many different colored leaves on them, is that how you get the different colors of syrup? Now my personal favorite...Do the trees expand as they get full of sap when it's time to get sap out? I'd like to answer " sure, thats where we have the really thick forests." but I didn't. Have a great day.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

No-vember

They call it No-vember because there are no leaves, there is no sunshine and no one wants to be outside when it's so dark and glummy. We do have election day and that was either good or bad which ever way you want to look at it. We have day light savings day coming up. Do we loose sleep or gain some? Veterans day which is a good thing and Thanksgiving when you stuff the bird and then you are stuffed yourself. No-vember an interesting month any way you look at it.

Speaking of snow our ski passes are on sale now, so come get your passes while they have that early bird special thru dec. 2nd. Many goodies come in your packet so beat the snow this year.

THE RUSH IS OVER

Our busy bus days have now passed and things can get back to normal. A few tourists still come thru and say our place is great even without the colored leaves. Locals are poking their heads back in " now that it's safe." We still have apples, squash, and potatoes. Our maple creemees are as good as always but the chocolate won't be back til spring. Who wants chocolate anyway? Cool days, cold nights....Burr... no pun intended. Happy fall.

summers back

Well just when you think summer is over, here we go again. What beautiful weather we have been having. I love the hot weather and if we can get an extra week or two out of it all the better. Winter is so long. Creemees are flying out of here. We have floats and cold drinks to cool you down. We do keep the maple creemees all winter for the skiers which they love. We will be closing a little earlier starting Sept. 6th. to get ready for our big bus season. About the middle of Sept. this place will be hopping. Stop by to see us soon.

Buses roll in

Soon our farm will be full of buses rolling in and out with their maple products and gifts. We've had four buses this week, only two next week but then seven and more and more. We love this time of year. Many interesting people and places they live. The days buzz by and before you know i'ts over. I'm not sure where the summer went and I'm sure the fall season will feel the same. Busy, busy.Stop in to get your apples and gourds. We still have lots of yummy corn.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

wacky wednesday

Usually at least once a week someone says something worth repeating because it is kind of crazy and we have gotten a kick out of it. So here it is. Yesterday someone asked me if that was a long-eared deer out in our pasture, or is it a baby moose? I thought they were kidding, they were not. I explained to them what all the animals were and went about my business. A little later they just had to ask again "so that is not a deer or a moose?" I guess you never know what people are thinking. Have a great day.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

new for fall

We have some new things arriving every day and of course all of the favorites that you stop in to get. Some new things for fall is apple turnovers and apple pies from Champlain Farms, and boy are they good. We have zip up light weight jackets for the cool nights ahead and some nice long sleeve tops also for the ladies. Apples and our own corn,Tom's grass fed beef and our famous maple creemees. Stop in and have a look around. I'ts hard not to find something you just can't live without.

Monday, August 23, 2010

Fall is coming soon

Even though I hate to see summer end, the cooler nights and windows being closed up at night tells me I'ts just around the corner. I do like the many buses we get and the hub-bub that goes along with it. The days fly by and it feels great at the end of the day when all of our visitors are happy and they leave with their treasures. We often here that this is the best stop that they had on their tour. Makes it all worth while. Stop up, we love our local folks too.

Friday, August 20, 2010

Busy Summer

I'ts been a really busy summer, almost seems like there has been more tourists than usual, maybe the price of airfare is having people drive to see us. Either way we are glad of all the folks that come, visitors and our steady local folks. The creemee business is booming and we have some great staff that keeps up with all the hub-bub around here. We have some early apples and our own corn. Pumpkins will be in soon and Burr will be getting the Mums soon. So come on up to see us soon. We'll make you smile.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Another great one

I don't know if we are talking about the weather or the great Bean-hole supper we just had. I guess there was about 80 people who came to enjoy the meal. We were real busy over the weekend. Afternoons here get a little crazy with lots of tourists and creemees. Some times I really wonder where they all come from. WOW....
WE have a few pints and half pints of beans, potato salad, and cole slaw left to sell, so if you want some you better get here quick. We still have plenty of creemees. Enjoy this beautiful day.

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Think we got some rain.

Wow what a day Wednesday at the Morse Farm. We had 2 buses scheduled for 3:00 and 3:30 with sugar on snow. But before that a small van came also so Burr gave them a tour and soon they were on their way. Sometimes during the day it was sunny other times it was pouring. Take your pick. Soon our afternoon buses came. It rained HARD. We were busy enough so I had forgotten the windows being down a little in my car, no big deal. So by the time the second bus was ready to leave it was dumping it.
The driver decided to bring the bus up to the front door to get people out of the rain quicker. Well out the front door there was a river, somehow the sign for Tommy's
beef got knocked over and they were using it for a bridge over the water. Good thing most of them had on sandles and short pants. I heard some "oh my goodness" and " how am I going to do this", I went out to see if I could help. Well I ended up standing in the water helping ladies across with their canes and walkers. Needless to say the water soaked up the back of my pant legs and when I got in my car other parts got wet too. Oh happy day. Let's just have sunshine.

UPDATES

A couple things to talk about, first the white-faced calf is a bull and the little all black calf is a heifer. So now we can all tell them apart since they are about the same size. Our Bean-hole supper is coming right up on the 24th of July which is this Saturday evening. We will be serving from 5:30 til 8:00. Call ahead to reserve your spot. It's always good, plenty of food, and you'll probably see some of your friends and neighbors here too. Dessert? MAPLE CREEMEES OF COURSE. Buy one out front and let your supper settle while you sit on the porch. See you soon.

Learning to fly

Yesterday I heard a lot of noise on the back deck. Birds. I saw some tourists out on the enclosed deck taking pictures of 4 to 5 baby Barn Shallows all lined up waiting for Mom to return with breakfast, then the racket really began. The mom took turns feeding each one then a couple at a time they flew a little ways testing their wings but hurrying back to safty and to see if mom had more food. Very cute. Little buff colored bellies all in a row on the railing. Test your wings today try something new. Have a great day.

Another baby.

Well, baby # 2 is now out in our pasture with Mom. Same color, black, but I haven't heard what it is yet. They look so cute out there next to their huge moms. By the end of the year they will be almost as big as their mothers. Our other animals seem happy and well fed. Otis certainly gets a good share of the food, just start walking over there and you'll probably be followed by that little brown goat,up the ramp and put something in the bucket and watch our showoff. Hasn't refused a snack yet.

Holy Cow.

Just when you think you've heard it all, someone else makes a statement that just leaves you shaking your head. People are strange with some funny ideas. We were asked if there was a real cow buried under the granite cow statue. What? Are you kidding? I wanted to respond "No, it's a horse", but I politely said it was a gift to us from a local lady about Vermont family farms. She said "okay" and walked away. Have a great holiday weekend.

June, where did it go ?

It's hard to believe June is over already. I guess they are right the older you get the faster the time goes. It seemed like a crazy month, hot, cold, rain, rain, rain. Just couldn't seem to get a good stretch of weather for nothing. Now the 4th of July weather forecast looks wonderful. Sunshine all 3 days, hot, perfect, but we all know the weatherman lies. I guess we'll just wait and see how it goes. Stop up to see us either before the weekend or bring your company up over the 4th.

fruits of the season

Today we finally got organic tomatoes from our neighbors at Cold Pocket Farm. They look really good. Dennis thought they would never get ripe, he said we really needed more sunshine. So finaly. We also still have some nice strawberries, don't know how much longer but we'll enjoy them while we can. Soon we'll be hearing about blueberries and raspberries. Isn't summer great? Why not pick up your fresh fruit for the holiday weekend ?

Friday, June 25, 2010

Morse Farm a meeting place

It seems almost every day neighbors see each other here
either picking up milk, creemees, or gifts they all stop and visit just like they are in their own yard. It's nice to see they feel comfortable here. Friends from years ago come back to visit and run into a native Vermonter that was a friend from highschool and they have a grand old time remembering the good times. Little kids have a play date and come to see the animals and get a treat so some day they will remember when also with an old friend from the past. Have a wonderful weekend, contact an old friend.

And the weather is?

Today it can't decide if it wants to rain or be sunny. I'll take sunny. People think of having a creemee when its hot, its more fun to eat when its messy. Nothing like a 3 napkin creemee on a nice day. Our bulk maple syrup has been a real hit too. Nothing like pancakes or French toast for supper sometimes, and when you get a deal on the syrup its even better. New items all the time for our summer shoppers. Rain or shine we are here 8 o'clock to 8 every day.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

visitors

Just in the last two days we have had visitors from thirteen different states, and that doesn't include people who didn't sign our guest register here in the store. We had three buses in an hour and a half for sugar on snow on Tuesday afternoon and then I think most of them got a maple creemee with other goodies before heading to their next stop. It has only been two days but it feels like a full week. We are lucky to be pretty busy most of the time. Come on up, we are always glad to see our local folks. Have a great day.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

No Vanilla

People I guess just don't listen to what you are saying. They will ask us what flavor of creemees we have. The answer is Maple, Chocolate and a twist of the two together. So of course they want vanilla. We politely say we don't have vanilla, we have maple, chocolate, and a twist of the two. The second time they ask for vanilla we tell them we use vanilla mix and put our own maple syrup in it to make maple creemees which is really way better than vanilla. So no vanilla here.

First day of Summer

Beautiful summer days and evenings are upon us. They are the times to get your grass-fed beef and start up the grill. Burgers or steaks we have it here and it is some of the best. Top it off with a creemee,a sundae, float, or creemee pie and kick back. Summer is way too short not to have it all. New items still arriving and Ottis and Shirley are watching for you to bring them a treat. Stop in,sit a spell.

More useages for maple

Whenever we think of our Maple Cream we think of spreading it on toast, biscuits, or something toasted like most people do. Well, one day a lady here with a group was shopping around then decided to give the maple cream a try, on her HANDS. She thought it was cream for your hands and spread it on. After realizing it wasn't what she thought it was she went to wash it off. Probably the bees loved her the rest of the day. Sweet. Elliott has made a new batch of Maple Cream. come on up. No hands reguired.

SUMMER VISITORS

Schools will be out for the summer soon and visitors will be stopping in
to see us,by car, truck, camper, mini van, motorcycle, motor coach or bike tours. Each will be looking for something a little different. Maybe a small gift for the dog sitter or to get a wedding gift. Some times they just need a creemee and tell us they were here years ago and knew they had to have another one. They get their maple syrup before heading back home and let us know they will be back again another year. That is nice to hear. Lots of motor coaches tell us this is the best stop on their tour, we are famous, you know. Come see us soon.

And we thought we'd seen it all

A few years back we had some colored glycerine soap in our store. It was real pretty in different colors and what looked like pieces of candied fruit in it. You could cut off as much as you wanted and get it weighed at the counter. Cool. It was clearly marked SOAP. Along came a man who picked up a small piece that broke off and promply popped it in his mouth thinking it was candy. The look on his face at the first bite, I think he blew bubbles for quite a while. He went to the kitchen and asked for a pickle to get the taste out of his mouth. Don't eat soap. Another time an older couple came in and looked around a little and took two small dog cookies out of the dog cookie jar in our pet area and walked out thru to see the video that was in the back of the store at that time, they sat down ate their dog cookies and never said a word. I guess they are good enough for your dog too. Smile....

Bus season not so far off

Even though summer is just starting we have had some buses already. Just this week we have had three buses. One was from Hawaii, one full of 50+ eighth graders from New york city, and the last one from Great Britain. It gets us ready for the 10-15 we have each day during fall foliage. So if we are not crazy when we begin the season, we certainly are by the end of the season. It helps to be a little crazy to work here. People for the most part are understanding that sometimes this is not a easy job. Others wonder how we keep our cool and get thru it. We like being busy come visit soon. Have a great day.

somethings are better left unsaid

Here is something that I had forgotten about but when one of our new employees mentioned she just got married a year ago it came back to me. I had a tour director call me a few weeks ago who said she just had to bring a bus here again, and it wasn't just that she loved this place it was more than that. I couldn't help ask her what that might be. She said she was in love with Burr. She said she couldn't help herself, he was cute, funny, wonderful, and would marry him if she could. Watch out Betsy. I really was taken aback by this, she was serious. I was embarassed for her, she couldn't stop talking about him. Now we have had people tell us how funny and cute he is but this was over the top. The end of September she's coming, beware Burr.

outstanding in the field

The other day one of our local folks came in and said she thought she saw Burr out standing in the corn field which was fine but the way he was standing there looked like he was p..ing. But last night when we went by to go home he was laid out flat like he was dead. Nope just the wind knocked him over. Those statues are very real looking from a distance. Burr, use the restroom and stay out of the field when it's windy. Have a great day.

People are funny

Some times people just have a different way of thinking, or they just don't know and they have their own ideas about how things are. Here are a few funny things that have happened at Morse Farm.....One day we heard a man explaining to his wife, that the different colors of the trees are how you get the different grades of syrup...
One day some one asked me if any one had ever been killed from an exploding maple tree because it hadn't been tapped quick enough......I thought they were kidding, they were not. Another person said it must take a long time to go thru the woods and turn all those little faucets on to get the syrup out.... Keep smiling.
